Valentino’s New Eco-Friendly Sneakers: Open For A Change Project

The Italian fashion house, Valentino, recently released the Open For A Change project, a reinvented version of its Open and Rockstud Untitled shoes using primarily recyclable and bio-based materials, emphasizing two of the brand’s signature sneakers, the Open and the Rockstud Untitled.

As a part of the environmentally friendly campaign, The Maison uses the latter as a substitute for leather made from viscose and polyurethane of corn-derived polyols. These materials are used to produce the uppers of both models and part of the sideband on the Open; the strings are entirely made of recycled polyester, and Valentino’s trademark studs on the Rockstud Untitled are also made of recycled nylon. The shoe cover and packaging, which are constructed of entirely recycled cotton and paper obtained from sustainably managed forests, represent this environmental approach.

Valentino’s new Open shoes come in a variety of colours with white uppers. The name of the collection, Open for a Change, is inconspicuously stamped across the side of each shoe. They also have a Valentino emblem on the sole and the unique lacing technique that is associated with these two styles.
