Timothée Chalamet wore a unique Cartier jewellery creation at the “Dune: Part Two” world premiere in London. This feat of Cartier savoir-faire was developed by the Maison’s jewellery ateliers, with the creative input of the Cartier ambassador. This is the second such creation the Maison’s design studios and atelier have realised for the American-French actor, following the unique necklace made for the “Wonka” premiere in 2023.
Through more than 900 coloured stones, the Maison evokes the emblematic sands and desert of the film, as well as the piercing blue eyes of the fremen characters. Each colour inhabits one side of the modular necklace, allowing the wearer to rotate the structure and choose which combination of stones to reveal.
A precious sandscape is created on one side through orange, yellow, brown and white nuances of diamond, studded with invert-set diamonds that add a spiked texture and recall the peaked, sometimes hostile terrain.
“This work of art explores the complexity of nature and vitality, transporting us to a place where contrast and extremes reign. The precious stones are in vibrant, opposing colors: glowing yellows and fiery oranges diamonds evoke a relentless desert sun, while cool blues sapphires pierce the landscape like oases, and deep blacks onyx hint at the depth of the desert’s secrets. This universe is mysterious, spontaneous – and ultimately balanced.” – Marie-Laure Cérède, Creative Director of Jewellery and Watchmaking
On the reverse, the Maison has chosen to play with nuances of blue, choosing sapphires and spinels to recreate the vitality and intensity of the striking blue eyes seen throughout the film.
This collaboration began in the Maison’s Parisian ateliers, where Timothée met with Marie-Laure Cérède, the Cartier’s Creative Director of Jewellery and Watchmaking, and shared his inspiration, the aesthetic of the “Dune” film itself, along with archival references and exclusive film stills.
“Cartier creations have always been my first choice for important moments and getting to collaborate on this project only reinforced that for me. I think Marie-Laure and I found a way to evoke the desert and harsh beauty of Dune in the Cartier style; a wonderful opposite to the candy-coloured enchantment of our first collaboration together.” – Timothée Chalamet
Both creations will become part of the Cartier Collection, travelling the world to illustrate the Maison’s creativity and technical expertise in leading exhibitions and cultural institutions. Click here to discover more about Cartier’s latest collections.
