Chopard welcomes Zhang Ziyi as Global Ambassador

On the ninth day of the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival, to which Chopard is the official partner, Caroline Scheufele – Co-President and Artistic Director – hosted a dinner on the Chopard Rooftop in honour of her friend Zhang Ziyi to announce the appointment of the Chinese actress as its global brand ambassador for Chopard creations.

It was on the Chopard Rooftop at the top of the Martinez Hotel, with its view over the waterfront and the Palais des Festivals on the horizon, that Caroline Scheufele offered a dinner in honour of her long-time friend Zhang Ziyi. This year, the Chinese actress is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her cinematographic career – an event to which the Maison Chopard, with its passion for film, has naturally enthusiastically contributed its share of celebrations.

She will bring all her beauty and elegant dress sense to personifying the quest for all the emotions evoked by Chopard creations in her own country and around the world.

An ambassador with close ties to the Cannes International Film Festival

The decision to make this announcement during the Cannes International Film Festival is explained by Zhang Ziyi’s close associations with this major international event in honour of the seventh art, and to which Chopard has been the official partner since 1998.

Acclaimed by international critics for her role in Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, selected out of competition at Cannes in 2000, the fascinating actress of Memoirs of a Geisha returned to the Festival in competition in 2003 with Lou Ye’s Purple Butterfly. In 2004, she was once again awarded the highest distinction in competition for 2046 by Wong Kar-Wai, and out of competition for Zhang Yimou’s The House of Flying Daggers.

In addition, Zhang Ziyi has also walked the red carpet many times as a member of a jury. In 2006, she participated as a member of the distinguished feature film jury chaired by Wong Kar-Wai; again in 2009 on the Cinéfondation jury; and on that of Un Certain Regard in 2013. Finally, this year, Zhang Ziyi has taken on the role of  godmother of the Trophée Chopard, an award that is part of the official Festival calendar, and which honours two promising young actors.
