Happy Diamonds
Lucky-charm animals to wear close to the heart
Soft, round curves. Universal symbols. Noble, natural materials. And dancing diamonds. In the pure tradition of Happy Diamonds creations, enter these new little lucky-charm animals. A teddy bear, a ladybird, an elephant, a turtle, a butterfly and a frog, interpreted with great tenderness into a family of pendants and bracelets in ethical gold.
It all began with a clown
Back in 1985, Caroline Scheufele sketched the outlines of her first piece of jewellery: a mischievous clown with a chubby belly filled with dancing gems, which proved a resounding success and paved the way for jewellery at Chopard. Over the years, its legacy has been reflected in numerous Happy Diamonds creations, all stemming from Caroline Scheufele’s fertile imagination. Among them are pendants depicting delightful figurative animals with twirling diamonds, the embodiment of perpetual Joie de Vivre. Some of them have become iconic, lighting up the last few decades in a wealth of original and varied guises. Today, a new family of mischievous animals appears in a form echoing the aesthetic codes of the original iterations.
Symbolic materials and soft design
The rounded lines of these Happy Diamond jewellery pieces and their symbolism as well as the playfulness of dancing diamonds all evoke the sweetness of childhood, making them cheerful and easy to wear for any occasion – especially given their optimal proportions enabling them to be worn solo or combined with other jewellery.
While the pendants already offered in ethical rose gold are now interpreted in new versions crafted from ethical white gold paved with brilliants, a series of bangle bracelets is joining the collection. A mischievous dancing diamond stars opposite animals meticulously crafted from natural materials such as jade, cornelian, silver sheen obsidian, chalcedony and malachite. Each of these noble materials has been selected for its symbolic significance and the properties associated with it.
A gentle blend of tenderness, luck, wisdom and longevity
The animals featured in these interpretations of the collection are intimately bound up with the Maison’s storied history. The teddy bear recalls Caroline Scheufele’s early years: what child hasn’t whispered secrets into their teddy bear’s ear, or clasped them close to their heart, bringing comfort and reassurance? The ladybird, a dainty harbinger of good fortune pointing to fulfilment and happiness, has also inspired watches over the years, featuring secret covers and small table clocks with articulated wings. The turtle, Karin Scheufele’s favourite animal, is a symbol of calm, wisdom and determination; it can be found as a mobile feature on the dial of Happy Sport Métiers d’Art timepieces, as well as in magnificent Haute Joaillerie compositions. Known for its exceptional longevity, the elephant has been exuding its quiet strength since the inception of the Happy Diamonds jewellery collection, Caroline Scheufele’s second key achievement following the clown’s successful debut. A symbol of transformation and lightness, the butterfly evokes taking flight, hope and change; while the frog is a token of abundance and prosperity whose leap brings a fanciful touch reminiscent of childhood fairytales to many of the Maison’s Haute Joaillerie models.
Talisman jewellery to accompany everyday life, the new Happy Diamonds creations are discreet yet indispensable, precious companions for every passing moment.
Happy Diamonds Icons
A new aesthetic for dancing diamonds
Since 1976, dancing diamonds have been enchanting the world of watches and jewellery. With their irresistible movement, vibrant energy and panache, they have become the symbol of a perpetually changing world in which women can assert their Joie de Vivre and free-spirited attitude. Today, they light up a series of pendants, rings, earrings and bracelets in ethical gold joining the Happy Diamonds Icons collection, featuring a new square design that complements the existing heart-shaped and round versions. More than just jewellery, these are veritable talismans designed to accompany the hectic pace of daily life.
An iconic new design
Admired yet never equalled, Chopard’s Happy Diamonds are reinvented through new jewellery interpretations. While the collection has made a name for itself with several emblematic heart-shaped and round variations, these square jewellery creations are no less faithful to the collection’s soft, curved lines: the workshops have crafted a bevelled square with cut sides, creating surfaces that reflect the light without the slightest sharp edge in sight. The design of the bangle bracelet – a timeless fixture in Chopard’s collections – and the ring has been revisited with a square-shaped band to which a central gadroon brings a lighter touch.
It is amid this precious context that the dancing diamonds – one or three, depending on the version – gracefully continue their merry dance in two variations: in polished 18-carat yellow gold, or in white gold set with brilliant-cut diamonds.
“Diamonds are happier when they are free”.
On that day back in 1976 when Karin Scheufele – mother of Chopard’s current Co-President and Artistic Director Caroline Scheufele – laid eyes on the first prototype of Happy Diamonds, she declared that diamonds should not be confined by the constraints of gem setting. That which is precious must move and dance in the whirl of an uncompromising life. Since then, the Maison’s creative abundance has given rise to thousands of watch and jewellery variations that have come to symbolise Joie de Vivre and to celebrate a free-spirited approach.
Happy Spirit
A diamond dance exuding hypnotic charm
Life naturally harbours the joy of perpetual motion, as gracefully expressed through the subtle movement of a talisman jewel: the Happy Spirit collection symbolises the cardinal values permeating the Maison Chopard. A jewellery collection imbued with multiple artistic sources, which it vividly embodies through its light effects and pure lines. Exuding the lightness of time and punctuated by the timeless circle and dancing diamonds, Happy Spirit displays its joyful sparkle through a series of different-sized pendants in ethical 18-carat white gold.
Childhood summed up in one smooth move: that of a pebble sent skimming across the water, where aquatic circles echo a playful impulse. A metaphor and a stylish reflection of this vibrant momentum, Happy Spirit captures the spirit of a mineral heart – that of a diamond – surrounded and further enhanced by concentric circles. At the dawn of the 21st century, Chopard’s iconic dancing diamonds gave birth to Happy Spirit, a collection of jewellery endowed with mesmerising charm, talismans for the woman who wears them and a living tableau for those who observe them in action.
The ageless femininity of the circle
The enduring symbolism of the circle, mingling ethnological and cultural elements, stems from its aesthetic perfection exercising an undeniable fascination. With Happy Spirit, a wonderful game of chance and kinetic energy impels dancing diamonds to perform a mesmerising choreography staging multiplied circles, the perennial and multicultural symbol of femininity, fertility and perpetual rebirth.
Happy Spirit comes as a variety of pendants in different sizes, equally enhancing either a cashmere sweater or a full-length evening gown. Depending on their size, one to three dancing diamonds rotate, protected by several nested circles. Each pendant is crafted in ethical 18-carat white gold, entirely set with diamonds and suspended from one or more chains of varying lengths.
When jewellery mirrors art
The eminently feminine roundness of the circle naturally conjures up a range of artistic connotations. It naturally recalls Calder’s amazing mobiles, which perform an enchanting ballet with the slightest breeze. The circle and its interlocking elements also evoke sculptural references dear to the Russian avant-garde, as well as to the surrealist movement which, through the work of André Breton, celebrated the concept of objective chance. The free and apparently random variations of the circles gracing Happy Spirit jewellery stage a perpetually renewed show that vividly illustrates this formal interpretation: a single movement or impulse enables them to redraw the map of possibilities and reshuffle the cards of desire.
Haute Joaillerie
Jewellery watches: a historic Chopard savoir-faire
Jewellery watches are particularly coveted treasures amid the wonderment that pervades the Haute Joaillerie workshops guided by Chopard’s indefatigable Co-President and Artistic Director, Caroline Scheufele. Reflecting the Scheufele family’s longstanding expertise, gem-set timepieces embody a legacy handed down from generation to generation. The virtuosity of this savoir-faire is regularly acknowledged by the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, in which Chopard won a fifth Jewellery Watch Prize at the last edition. Chopard’s Haute Joaillerie collection now welcomes two new models in diamonds or diamonds and emeralds. Designers, gemmologists, lapidaries, model maker-sculptors, polishers, gemsetters and watchmakers are just some of the exceptional artisans who have devoted their skills to crafting these jewellery masterpieces born of Caroline Scheufele’s fertile imagination.
Diamond lacework
The first of these timepieces stages the Maison’s signature motif with a lacy, bejewelled composition of delightfully interwoven ethical 18-carat white gold and diamonds. The dial rim and the centre of the gem-set bracelet are graced with a succession of generous round-cut diamonds, each surrounded by a slim guipure of diamond brilliants accentuating their radiance. Chopard thereby cultivates an ongoing dialogue between couture and jewellery in which the watch – an ultimate precious ornament studded with 436 diamonds – is as airy and comfortable as a piece of immaculately white lace.
The dial of this jewellery masterpiece is a work of art in itself: divided into 12 sections making it easy to tell the time indicated by delicately blued hands, it is entirely paved with brilliants and topped by a diamond-facetted sapphire crystal.
Stunning emeralds
Offering another source of wonderment on the second model, two majestic Colombian emeralds totalling 4.89 carats adorning either end of the watch case are admirably complemented by a subtly balanced array of pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds. The watch is secured to the wrist by a slender, pearl grey satin strap.
Hours and minutes mark the passage of time on a dial featuring a centre paved with diamond brilliants, while the undulating shimmer of the mother-of-pearl chapter ring is graced with four fleurs-de-lys traced by pear-shaped diamonds.
No less than 424 hours of creative talent were devoted to this glamorously feminine creation combining the workshops’ full range of artistic crafts.
L’Heure du Diamant
Diamonds rule
L’Heure du Diamant – a collection that single-handedly epitomises a part of Chopard’s heritage and the dazzling combination of its skills – tells the story of the enduring spirit of jewellery-making through its various incarnations. The collection now appears with new designs enhancing the finest diamonds through perfectly proportioned motifs, backed by incredibly sophisticated gem setting techniques. The delicacy and poetry of this collection make it the ultimate symbol of romance, unleashing all the emotional power radiating from the heart of an infinitely precious jewel.
Poetic, precious floral inspiration
L’Heure du Diamant jewellery launches a new design. Thanks to the lightness and ingenuity of the collection’s characteristic crown setting, these creations sculpt the light to reveal all the brilliance and magnetism of the diamonds at their vibrant heart. Six diamonds, cut into the majestic pear shape, unfurl the petals of a sovereign flower, touching in its sheer simplicity and perfection. These large, generous-sized gems bring a bold, radically modern twist to this classic jewellery archetype. Based on a design drawn from the infinite richness of the plant kingdom, L’Heure du Diamant distils the quintessence of one of classical jewellery’s noblest motifs: the cluster. Playing with its proportions, the collection is the radiant expression of a springtime that is always just around the corner and a constantly renewed breath of fresh life.
Spanning a series consisting of a necklace, a ‘Toi & Moi’ ring, a bangle bracelet and several earring options in ethical 18-carat white gold, this floral motif allows for infinite compositions. Whether worn as a set or as a solo piece – even the earrings can be sold on their own or in pairs – each of the elements in this collection can be intertwined.
Illusion, orchestrating heart-felt light effects
Driven by boundless creative generosity, the Maison’s jewellery workshops offer a second interpretation of the cluster motif. In doing so, they express the full force of their gem setting talent through a series of rings, pendants and earrings featuring the heart theme – a source of love and life chosen by Chopard as one of its signature symbols. At first glance, this jewellery appears to sparkle with the supreme radiance of a single large diamond – an illusion skilfully orchestrated by a composition of several brilliants, with several stones revolving around a generous-sized central stone. The ensemble is held together by means of an innovative gem setting technique in which the diamonds are not set in traditional metal prongs, instead nestling in the soft lobes of a white gold heart whose gleaming mirror-polished surface catches and multiplies light effects. The intense fire of the diamonds mingles with that of the gold: these tiny hearts throbbing with energy and vitality are like an array of facets creating the splendid illusion of forming a single diamond.
Twinkling stars
A trail of stardust, twinkling in the deep blue of the celestial vault. The L’Heure du Diamant collection welcomes this ultimate jewellery design that is simple in appearance only, as beneath a pared-down composition of pear-shaped diamonds lies the full range of virtuoso skills exercised within the workshop. Available in two sizes, the earrings form a gentle arc resembling the flight of a shooting star and extending the round curve of the ear. It adds a graphic touch thanks to the tips of different-sized pear-shaped diamonds arranged in ascending order. These creations are complemented by a ring whose incandescent rays illuminate an enchanting universe. Here again, the setting vanishes into the light touches provided by prongs in ethical 18-carat white gold. Unencumbered by the constraints of metallic opacity and radiating all the mineral purity of diamonds, L’Heure du Diamant jewels embody fragments of eternity in their timeless grace.
Birth of a distinctive collection
The radiance of great classics sculpted with unprecedented lightness and viewed through the prism of contemporary elegance: L’Heure du Diamant takes its place amongst those collections perfectly distilling the spirit of Chopard. Inspired by the modernism of the 1960s, this watch and jewellery collection stems from the entrepreneurial genius of Karl and Karin Scheufele, combined with unique jewellery expertise handed down across successive generations.
